Art or work?

Both.

Discussion later, but it has been something I have been thinking a lot about lately as a result of a Desktop Mapping class.

My Next Project

One of the nice things about being a full time student is that I'll have extra time during winter break. (In theory!) I plan to spend some of my time making my own solar bag. Just imagine... powering up the iPod, cell phone or anything else that charges with a USB port. Yes, I know, I'll probably get flack for going "green" in a tech-geek sort of way, but hey I am known as the local tree-hugger around the house.

Check Out...

Popular Science reveals their favorate nerds of all time! The article is great and links to the list.

I was not familiar with all of the nerds listed but many of them I grew up with. Perhaps some of them should be higher on the list?!

This Past Week

Spent part of yesterday afternoon and most of today doing a research projest for my Intro to Field Research class. The project is due in just over a week. I think I have all of the data that I need so now all I need to do later this week is write the paper. That shouldn't be too hard. Yeah Right.

It was cold today while I was out there. 24 degrees. It also started snowing while I was out there. Flurries. I enjoyed that. Started righting a poem about the snow. It's not done yet. Needs to be finished and refined.

Thanksgiving went well. I don't really like holidays but I do enjoy Thanksgiving. I always remember that I have so many things to be thankful for.

Tuesday I registered for winter quarter. I was among the first to register due to having enough credits to be considered senior standing. I guess next year I'll be considered a fifth year? So anyways, here's the schedule (and thoughts on the classes)-

  • World Regional Geography- required for geography majors, shouldn't be too bad, almost like one of the geography classes that I transferred in

  • Air Photo Interpretation- should be very useful

  • History and Philosophy of Geography- very interested in this class, not sure what exactly it will include but it sounds a bit exotic

  • GIS II- more of the same, GIS III to follow next quarter

    A Look Back

    I thought I would post about my childhood.

    If you didn't watch it, here is the wikipedia entry.

    One customer who bought the DVD collection said "If you were being packed off to school on innumerable mornings in the late 70s/early 80s, chances are you woke up extra early some mornings to the rousing tones of the "Star Blazers" theme:

    "We're off to outer space,
    Leaving Mother Earth,
    To save the human race
    Our Star Blazers!"

    Yes, I used to get up early and watch this.

    Say what you will.

    My posts here will return to the normal serious stuff later on. Probably later tonight.

    History Lesson

    Great article in the Seattle times today. I love the old school photo.

    GO DAWGS!

    The game is later this week.

    That is NOT the 1-4 inches of snow they said we would get

    It did snow a little bit last night as I was coming home from the school.
    OK, I am officially excited about winter.

    Gotta GO!

    Look at the time stamp.

    That's right. It's late. almost a quarter after midnight.

    I am almost done with my midterm for Desktop Mapping.

    I have a project for Field Methods that I have not started and is due tomorrow.

    It may be my first all nighter of the quarter. Nah, I'll go get a couple of hours sleep and be right back at it.

    A Tribute

    For when the Sonics were in Seattle.

    Yes, I know they haven't technically left yet but they were bought with the sole intent of moving them to Oklahoma City.

    I'll try and find some more videos to post as we mourn the loss of our team.

    My Hair

    Today when I went to school my hair was perfect. It was not too long, not too short. It laid down and didn't stick up. I didn't use any cream or anything. (In case your wondering I'm a Dapper Dan man)(movie reference for anyone who doesn't know)It just laid down naturally. Almost like it finally knew what it is supposed to do.

    There was grey poking through but only on the sides and the light seemed to shimmer off of it. For some reason there was none on the top or in the bangs.I looked goood.

    I didn't wear a hat. I should have taken a picture.

    It's looked good before, heck, often times it looks good but today it looked extra good and it was au natural.

    On a side note.....

    An AOL article rated the 10 ugliest shoes. I own and wear numbers 2-5. I probably would have owned more but the rest seemed to be exclusive for women.

    They are:

    2. Crocs- very comfortable, I own a Seattle Seahawks pair. GO HAWKS!
    3. Birkenstocks- even more comfy. The article said something about no showering hippies wearing them. Almost time to replace mine the cork is about done.
    4. Teva's- determined to be same as Birks but not for hippies but for tree hugging granola freaks.
    5. Dr. Martin's- article in question blamed Kurt Cobain and Seattle for them. I own three pair.

    I've just recently started wearing Crocs but I consider the other three tried-and-tested-stood-the-test-of-time-must-have-can't-live-without-pack-them-even-if-you-don't-think-you'll-wear-them-and-you-must-have-them-if-ever-stranded-on-a-deserted-island.

    Veterans Day

    I haven't been posting a lot lately but I thought that I would be doing a disservice to all those who have served by not posting.

    My wife was asked to speak in church today about patriotism. I hope that she will post some, if not all of it on her Blog.

    It was once called Armistice Day, which commemorated the end of WWI. It ended at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. It has said to have been the "war to end all wars". Sadly that was not to have been the case.

    I could right quite a bit about the day but I think that I will just leave you with a poem by Wilfred Owen, a poet who fought in and died in WWI.

    SOLDIER'S DREAM

    I dreamed kind Jesus fouled the big-gun gears;
    And caused a permanent stoppage in all bolts;
    And buckled with a smile Mausers and Colts;
    And rusted every bayonet with His tears.

    And there were no more bombs,of ours or Theirs,
    Not even an old flint-lock, nor even a pikel.
    But God was vexed, and gave all power to Michael;
    And when I woke he'd seen to our repairs.
